Our Mission

The Jewish Bar Association of San Francisco is made up of lawyers in San Francisco Bay Area who have, to varying degrees, Jewish backgrounds, identities, families, or friends.

Some practice Judaism as a religion, others identify as ethnically or culturally Jewish, and yet others are friends and colleagues of Jews. All have an interest in developing relationships with one another and exploring the ways in which Jewish belief, tradition, and experience impact the profession of law.

We hope you'll join us.

The mission of the Jewish Bar Association of San Francisco, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is to create a forum for Jewish and non-Jewish attorneys and judges in the Bay Area to promote the educational, social, and professional advancement of Jewish members of the bar, and to serve as an educational resource, voice, and forum for our members on issues relating to the practice of law, the courts, and the community.

Our
Focus

We engage with all aspects of the expansive intersection of Judaism, Jewish life, and the law. For example, we're interested in such topics as pluralism and multiculturalism; Jewish-American history; Israel and the Middle East; Halakh, or Jewish Law, and its similarities and differences to the U.S. legal system; Tikkun Olam, or the necessity of "repairing the world"; the role of Jewish people in the national and international struggle for human and civil rights; secularism and religiosity; the study of Talmud and the study of law, and much, much more.
